The Renfrewshire Toy Bank issues urgent appeal for donations as referrals rise

A Renfrewshire charity that provides gifts to children for Christmas has issued an urgent appeal for more donations as the number of referrals for their service skyrockets.

The Renfrewshire Toy Bank is dealing with thousands of requests for support from financially stricken families this year but donations are down by around 40 per cent.The charity – which is run by volunteers – ensures that all children and teenagers receive something on December 25 and nobody goes without.However, the toy bank is in desperate need of more people to show the festive spirit, dig deep, and support them to provide for Renfrewshire youngsters.Volunteer Lauren Roy-Sutherland told the Express that donations were down 40 per cent on the previous year.

And to date, they have completed 800 referrals, with more arriving all the time.Lauren said: “We know that there’s at least 800 young people on our list, and there’s more coming in.“And with donations being 40 per cent down on the same period last year, we’re in need of more donations.
