Stephen Flynn announces Westminster reshuffle as SNP gears up for election campaign

Stephen Flynn has announced a reshuffle of his frontbench team at Westminster as the SNP gears up for the general election campaign.This is the first reshuffle Flynn has carried out since becoming SNP Westminster leader in December.The reshuffle has seen former chief whips Owen Thompson and Martin Docherty-Hughes return to the team.Drew Hendry is the new economy spokesperson, while Dave Doogan takes on the energy brief.

Amy Callaghan joins the frontbench as health spokesperson, Anum Qaisar takes on levelling up and Tommy Sheppard is now Scotland spokesperson.Former economy spokesperson Stewart Hosie and ex-Scotland spokesperson Philippa Whitford, who are both standing down at the next election, are no longer on the frontbench.Former energy spokesperson Alan Brown and ex-health spokesperson Martyn Day also lose their jobs, while former justice and immigration spokesperson Stuart McDonald no longer has a role.

He became treasurer of the party in April.Thompson returns as chief whip after losing the job when Ian Blackford stood down as leader.Docherty-Hughes, who replaced Thompson as chief whip before being forced to quit because of a botched mole hunt, returns as defence spokesperson.Brendan O'Hara replaced Docherty-Hughes and now takes on the foreign affairs role.Chris Stephens moves from levelling up to justice and immigration, with Patricia Gibson going from environment, food and rural affairs to attorney general spokesperson.Steven Bonnar is a new addition, taking Gibson's old job.David Linden, Alison Thewliss, Alyn Smith and Kirsten Oswald are among those staying in place as social justice spokesperson, home affairs spokesperson, Europe and EU accession spokesperson, and women and equalities spokesperson.Flynn said:
