Gears Of War designer Cliff ‘CliffyB’ Bleszinski has revealed he once pitched a game similar to Palworld to Epic Games, but was turned down.Released earlier this month in Early Access, Palworld has quickly become one of the most popular games on Steam. Creators PocketPair have reported upwards of 8million copies of the game have been sold in a week while earlier today (January 26), it became only the second ever game to pass 2million concurrent players on Steam, with PUBG being the first.Now Bleszinski has taken to social media to talk about how validating Palworld’s success has been for him.“Palworld‘s success kinda validates my pitch that was turned down at Epic many years ago,” he wrote with his idea revolving around “medieval Pokémon with baby dragons instead.”Responding to a fan, Bleszinski revealed that his pitch for the mobile game “just never went anywhere”.It just…never went anywhere.

Fortnite has confirmed The Weeknd as the first headlining act for its new Festival game more.According to a press release, Fortnite Festival will be the first entirely music-focused mode to be introduced to the immensely popular battle royale game. While Fortnite itself is developed by Epic Games, the Festival game mode is being developed by Harmonix – the studio behind the Rock Band video game franchise.

Fortnite has confirmed a massive collaboration with Lego, with a series of skins and a new survival crafting mode coming to the game.Set to launch December 7, the update will bring a new Lego-themed survival crafting mode⁠ to Fortnite alongside a number of updates skins.The Lego skins will be a free alternative to a number of existing skins, with the mini-fig look available via player’s wardrobes. Fortnite skin has been readded to the game ahead of the upcoming Big Bang event.The original Black Widow skin has returned to Fortnite in a shock return, with this being the first time that the skin has been available in-game since Avengers: Endgame was released in 2019. Psyonix has announced player-to-player trading in Rocket League will be removed in December so that it aligns with Epic Games‘ terms for in-game items.“We’re making this change to align with Epic’s overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items aren’t tradable, transferrable, or sellable,” explained Psyonix in a post to the game’s official website.It said that the move “opens up future plans” for a selection of Rocket League vehicles to cross over into other offerings from Epic Games, though it was not stated which games these would be.Rocket League and Fortnite crossed over for the first time in 2020 following Psyonix’s buyout by Epic Games in the previous year.This was followed by the High Octane event in 2022, which brought the game’s iconic Octane battlecar to Fortnite and let players pull off stunts to travel across the map and escape from skirmishes.It also allowed Rocket League and Rocket League Sideswipe players to earn the Whiplash car in those games through the completion of High Octane quests on the Rocket League Live Island in Fortnite.Player-to-player trading in the game will end at midnight GMT on December 6.

Epic Games has announced the loss of 830 employees in a round of layoffs, with “two-thirds” of these roles outside of game development ventures.Through this, CEO Tim Sweeney aimed to “[cut] costs without sacrificing development or lines of businesses” and guarantee the continued efficacy of the company’s development functions.“For a while now, we’ve been spending way more money than we earn, investing in the next evolution of Epic and growing Fortnite as a metaverse-inspired ecosystem for creators,” explained Sweeney in a post to the Epic Games official website.“I had long been optimistic that we could power through this transition without layoffs, but in retrospect I see that this was unrealistic.”Of these 830 employees, Epic Games will lose 250 employees resulting from divestitures from Bandcamp and SuperAwesome. Bandcamp will be owned by Songtradr and “most” of SuperAwesome will be taken over by SuperAwesome Leadership.Those affected will benefit from a severance package that contains career transition services, visa support, six months base pay, the opportunity to “accelerate people’s stock option vesting schedule through the end of 2024” and six months of Epic-paid healthcare in the United States, Canada and Brazil.There will be no further redundancies in the future, affirmed Sweeney.

Though he is voiced by James McCaffrey, he is portrayed by Sam Lake in the original game, and Lake is the writer of Alan Wake and the director of Alan Wake 2.In the latest trailer, a character voiced by James McCaffrey and portrayed by Sam Lake slams Alan Wake against a wall and accuses him of being both a killer and cult leader.
