A Dumfriesshire animal sanctuary has been a popular venue during the festive season – not least for its donkeys. Santa even managed to take time out from his busy schedule to visit Clark’s Little Ark at Sanquhar where he met local youngsters and the animals.

Owner, Alison Shankly, established the sanctuary in memory of her animal-loving son, Clark. Donkeys Jack, Victor, Dotty, Paddy and Seamus are popular at the site which also has Shetland ponies, sheep, geese and a host of other birds and animals.

Alison and her husband, Ian, are fully aware that their animals make people smile and feel happy and they know how much Clark loved them.

Care of the increasing collection of animals over the years has been helped by volunteers who have taken Clark’s Little Ark to their hearts and also give up their time to raise funds and organise open days.
