Cops have locked down a former market after "suspicious items" were discovered. Emergency services swooped on the old Splott Market in Cardiff this afternoon.A heavy police presence is on the scene with the force awaiting the arrival of the Joint Service Explosive Ordnance Disposal, the British Army's specialist unit responsible for improvised explosive devices and conventional munitions.Builders have been working at the site, which closed in August 2022 after 40 years, and reportedly found two unexploded bombs, Wales Online reports.Resident Gareth Fox, who has been evacuated from his home, said: "I was told I had to leave my flat because they’d found a World War II bomb whilst digging." As well as evacuating locals, cops have locked down the area around Titan Road. The road closure is causing heavy traffic in the area.

Lorries are unable to move because they can’t get to industrial units on Ocean Way.A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "A cordon has been enforced and road closures are in place around the area and motorists are advised to take alternative routes."Splott Market closed after more than four decades on Sunday, August 28, last year.
