Scots have been warned that a period of heavy snow and rain in the days following Christmas could lead to travel chaos, flooding and power cuts. The Met Office has issued a warning for bad weather on Wednesday December 27 for parts of the country that's set to last nearly the entire day, from 6am until 11.59pm that evening.

It comes after a period of high winds that have been battering huge swathes of the UK in the run-up to the festive period - which is set to continue throughout Christmas Eve today.

Forecasters have warned that the 'heavy rain and snow' set to hit areas in the east coast, central and southern Scotland next week could cause a number of difficulties for people in the affected areas, especially when it comes to travel.

Delays to travel are possible on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel also likely.
