The Royal Family are known to traditionally exchange novelty gifts at Christmas time but it turns out they also dish out "funny" presents to their staff according to a former royal butler.Grant Harrold, who worked as a butler for Charles for seven years before he was King at his Gloucestershire home of Highgrove, has revealed what kind of items his old boss used to surprise them with during the festive period. The ex butler admitted that some of their gifts were a little "bizarre" and would be secretly slipped into the lockers of staff members each year.Harold previously told the Mirror that the staff at Highgrove had pigeon holes which the former Prince of Wales would ensure their presents were slipped into, the Mirror reports.

He explained: "We all used to have these pigeon holes where I'd get my post in the mornings and what he used to do at Christmas, he used to leave funny little things. "One time he left a tin of salmon and one year I got a salt and pepper grinder wrapped in a ribbon.

He had probably been given a hamper and sometimes there would be a lot in them and he would give some of the bits to us. "I just thought it was so bizarre because you don't expect those little things.

It shows that they've got that fun, practical side to them." Harold added that the staff members also enjoyed receiving Christmas cards from the royals over the festive period.
