A pensioner has been treated after escaping a house fire in Stockport. The woman, 83, was 'wrapped in a blanket' as she was helped by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) after the blaze broke out at around 3pm today (May 17).

Neighbours watched on at Booth Street, Edgeley, as crews spent an hour dealing with the fire. An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News: "Just driven past three fire engines on Booth Street in Edgeley, Stockport. Crews arrived quickly at scene. "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses used a gas monitor, short extension ladder, two hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.
