Mum and dad who left daughter to die in horrific conditions 'unfit for any animal' have jail terms INCREASED

A mother and father who left their morbidly obese daughter in squalor have had their jail terms increased today (May 19). Alun Titford, 45, and Sarah Lloyd-Jones, 40, were previously convicted of the gross negligence manslaughter of their morbidly obese 16-year-old daughter Kaylea Titford.

Initially, Lloyd-Hones was jailed for six years while Titford was told he would spend seven years and six months behind bars.

Now, the Court of Appeal has decided to raise their sentences to 10 years and eight years respectively. Their daughter was found in conditions described as 'unfit for any animal' and was dressed in soiled clothing following her death at the family home in Newtown, Powys in October 2020. Read more: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community William Emlyn Jones KC, representing the Attorney General’s Office (AGO), said: “By virtue of the combination of the duration of the neglect, the nature of the victim’s prolonged suffering, the extent of the victim’s vulnerability and absolute dependence on her parents for care, and ultimately, the appalling conditions in which she was left to live and ultimately die, this is an offence which falls into the definition of ‘extreme’.” Lloud-Jones watched via videolink from prison while Titford was not present.

Lord Justice Popplewell, sitting with Mrs Justice McGowan and His Honour Judge Bate, who raised the sentences said: "The circumstances can only be categorised as extreme, Kaylea was living in unimaginable squalor.” Read next:
