Man City academy head takes leading role with women's team

Charlotte O'Neill will be the new managing director of Manchester City Women, taking over from Gavin Makel. Makel has been in post for the last three years as part of a decade of involvement but is moving to become director of service of operations, focusing on the club's efforts to turn the Etihad into an entertainment complex.

That includes the expansion of the stadium and the building of a hotel and museum alongside the investment in new indoor arena Co-Op Live.

O'Neill has been a lynchpin in the academy as head of operations and development and has stepped up this season as interim director, filling the gap between Jason Wilcox leaving for Southampton and Thomas Krucken.

She will start her new position at the beginning of next month, with Gareth Taylor hoping to continue the fine start to the season from the women's team that sees them early leaders in the Women's Super League.
