Major Universal Credit shake-up could see sick or disabled people lose £400

More than half a million seriously ill or disabled individuals could face a loss of nearly £400 per month if proposals to reform the benefits system are implemented, according to reports.

Currently, Universal Credit claimants in the Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity (LCWRA) group receive a monthly top-up payment of up to £390.06.

Individuals in this category are considered unfit for work and are not expected to seek employment. However, the Government intends to abolish the LCWRA group and introduce a new Universal Credit "health element".

Under the proposed changes, individuals will only receive the additional funds if they already qualify for Personal Independence Payments (PIP).
