LA Priest shares new song “Star”

Sam Eastgate has shared the second single from Fase Luna, his next album as LA Priest, due out May 5 via Domino. “Star,” a sparkling, slickly crafted piece of R&B pop, captures Eastgate’s spectral self-image during the creation of the forthcoming record, at which point he was marooned in Puerto Morelos, Mexico, unable to cross the border to Belize, where he’d been recruited to build a drum machine for another artist. “While I was living in Mexico, nothing seemed real and it made me think of people I missed,” Eastgate writes in a press release. “I walked on the streets at sunset and at night with a dog that I found there and made up this song.” Read Next: Song You Need: LA Priest’s “It’s You” makes paradise a reality All shining guitar shapes and tight pocket drumming — the latter laid down by Carlos Gabriel Favela Manzano during this period of exile as Eastgate hummed the melodies — the new cut is a strong follow-up to the project’s lead single, “It’s You” (a certified Song You Need).
