King Charles will be officially crowned on Saturday (6 May) - finally taking up the role he has been preparing for since he was three years old.

The 75-year-old royal became first in the line of succession when he was a toddler after his grandfather King George VI died on 6 February, 1952, and his mother, Elizabeth II, became Queen.

Charles was the longest-serving heir apparent in British history - as well as the oldest person to ascend to the British throne when he finally became King at the age of 73 after the Queen died in September last year.

Much of Charles’ life has been spent getting ready to be King - and it has been said that this affected his relationship with his late father Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
