Jodie Sweetin is taking defense over the controversy surrounding the drag queens’ performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony.
Many conservatives have slammed the participation of the drag queens, particularly the moment where they give an ode to Greek god Dionysus, but they took it as being offensive, mocking The Last Supper and the Christian faith. Keep reading to find out more… Candace Cameron Bure has been one of those who slammed the depiction, saying, “To watch such an incredible and wonderful event that’s going to take place over the next two weeks, and to see the Opening Ceremonies completely blasphemed and mock[ed] the Christian faith with their interpretation of The Last Supper was disgusting.” “It makes me mad, but I’m more sad.
Because I’m sad for souls,” she added. After some tried to correct her, Candace said, “I still don’t see how [Dionysus] relates to unifying the world through competitive sports and [is] acceptable for children to watch… In any case, I’m not buying it.” Since then, Jodie took to her own Instagram story to defend the depiction during the Opening Ceremonies. “Tell me you don’t know about art or history,” she wrote on Monday (July 29), adding, “without TELLING me you don’t know about art or history.” She also reposted a video from Walter Masterson, where he explained how it was actually inspired by Dionysus. “The Olympics come from Ancient Greece,” he says in his video. “French culture is also rooted in feasting, festivity and ritual theater.” If you missed it, see how the Paris Olympics organizers reacted to the backlash.
