GMP say that offensive chants by football fans will not be tolerated ahead of the Manchester derby. Manchester United are set to take on Manchester City in the 191st derby between the clubs.

In a statement released to fans, GMP have promised to leave 'no stone unturned' to ensure the safety of match going fans and the wider public.

The police force say they are working closely with local authorities like the British Transport Police, Transport for Greater Manchester and both football clubs in 'orchestrating a seamless event' without concern for abuse or criminal behaviour.

In a strong statement, Chief Superintendent Colette Rose of GMP’s Trafford District, said that there will be a crackdown on any offensive chanting.
