Taylor Harwood-Bellis wants to stay at Southampton next season if they earn promotion to the Premier League. The defender, who won promotion from the second tier last season with Burnley, went on to captain England under-21s to their European Championship success in the summer.

With a surprising lack of suitors to buy him permanently over the summer transfer window, Harwood-Bellis made the season-long loan switch to St Mary's on deadline day.

Harwood-Bellis signed a contract extension at City until 2025 before departing on loan, but should Southampton get promoted this season that will trigger an obligation to buy the centre-back for around £20m barring any exceptional circumstances. Speaking to the Daily Echo, he said: “If we get promoted [I want to stay]. Yeah, 100 per cent. That’s the drive of the whole club, to get back to the Premier League, and that’s where I want to be. “I wouldn’t have come here if that wasn’t the club's ambition.
