Brits are being warned to look out for a booze-loving insect with a painful sting that could make its way to the UK from continental Europe.Gardening experts have raised the alarm over the risk of Asian Hornets that may migrate in big numbers from the continent as a result of destructive heatwaves.

As well as unbearably high temperatures, the natural disaster has also sparked wildfires in Greece, Italy and Spain. According to founder of GardeningExpress.co.uk Chris Bonnet, 10 Brits have already been stung by Asian Hornets since July and those who spot one should report it online to keep track.

He said: “We’re expected to see more and more Asian Hornets enter the country after the recent heatwave across Europe and people need to be aware of what to do if they see this insect."As well as having an incredibly painful sting thanks to its long stinger and potent venom, the pests have been known to cause deadly anaphylactic shock in severe cases and in those with allergies.

The specialist added that the bugs love alcohol so anyone enjoying a tipple outside should remain vigilant."It’s important to be aware that these insects love alcohol, particularly beer, champagne and wine, so you may find them at a beer garden or hovering above your pint at a barbecue," Chris added.“If you notice one in your drink then just leave your glass alone and make sure you report the sighting.
