feeo's "Red Meat" is a song that explores the moral quandaries of the everyday and the pressure to do the right thing. That moral purity found in abstinence and avoidance is often represented with a sense of cleanliness.
feeo presents the opposite through hunks of flesh, dripping with blood and waiting to be devoured. The push and pull of temptation is felt in the song's sparse backdrop and her rich, textured vocals.
She uses the space to chew on nuansced thoughts about diverting away from the socially acceptable and innate desire. In conversation with a man she is told that what you want is not always what is best, "But I'd rather live long and be free." Speaking to The FADER via email, feeo says: “‘Red Meat’ describes an allegorical discussion between a carnivorous man and a protagonist who is abstaining from satiating carnal desire, for fear of being morally corrupt.
The song was inspired by my own relationship with hunger, guilt and abstinence. Through ’Red Meat’, I examine consumption as both necessity and desire, exploring the ways in which personal morality becomes entangled with identity.” "Red Meat" is feeo's first new material since 2021 EP feels like we’re getting older doesn’t it.
