Police have arrested a 49-year-old man following an incident that locked down a street in Arbroath for over six hours. Officers were called to Strathairlie Avenue in the Angus seaside town at around 10.30am on Monday April 17 following reports of an alleged disturbance.

Residents were ordered to leave their homes while police responded to the incident, with at least six squad cars and an armed response unit sent to the scene.

Officials have not clarified the nature of the disturbance following the man's arrest. However, gas network operator SGN has confirmed that it was asked to isolate the supply at a property in the street as part of the emergency response.Images provided to the Record show a large-scale emergency service response, including the presence of armed police officers in the street.Cops clad in body armour with guns could be seen standing at the scene.A cordon that was put up to keep people at a distance from the incident was taken down sometime between 5pm and 6pm on Monday evening, according to locals.A 49-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the incident and will appear in court tomorrow.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.30 am on Monday, 17 April 2023, police were called to a report of a disturbance at an address in Strathairlie Avenue, Arbroath."Around 4.55pm, a 49-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident."He has since been charged and is due to appear at court on Tuesday, 18 April 2023.
