A devastated dog owner is warning people to be vigilant after two of her pets died after being ‘poisoned’ while out on their walk.Miniature daschunds Honey and Chickpea were at Harperrig Reservoir yesterday when they suddenly took ill and passed away a short time later. They had been playing with owner Julie Campbell’s two other dogs and were digging in sand when they became limp and started frothing at the mouth.Tragically Chickpea (5) died before she even made it back to the car and 11-year-old Honey passed away at the vets in the early hours of this morning. The vet said the dogs had died of “toxicity” but was unable to pinpoint an exact cause.Julie, who lives in Murieston, is now urging other do owners to keep their pets on a lead in the area. She said: “The impact has been horrendous our 14 year old daughter witnessed everything.

They were our family, they would not have hurt anyone. They did not deserve this and we are left absolutely heartbroken.”She continued: “My husband and daughter took them a walk to the reservoir about 9pm last night with our other two dogs.“The dogs played in the water and the daschunds were digging around in the sand.“When my husband arrived home on taking the dogs out the car both daschunds were limp, frothing at mouth.“We called vet and were to take them to Edinburgh.

Before we got into car chickpea had died. Honey was given treatment at vet but died around 4.30am this morning.“The vet has said it was toxicity but can’t pinpoint it.“My advice to other owners is to keep their dog on lead in this area as there is something there has poisonous and killed our dogs.”“They were my daughter Lily’s babies.
