Natalie Portman says method acting is a “luxury women can’t afford”
Natalie Portman has spoken about method acting in a recent interview, describing it as a “luxury women can’t afford.”Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Portman explained how she has never employed the approach, which typically involves an actor undergoing a range of techniques to help them deeply identify with their character emotionally, physically and mentally, often by changing their routines and thoughts to be more like their character. While Portman explained how she does seriously prepare for her roles, including an intensive training programme and a strict diet for her role as a ballerina in Black Swan, she said: “I don’t think that children or partners would be very understanding of, you know, me making everyone call me ‘Jackie Kennedy’ all the time”, referring to her portrayal of the former US First Lady in the 2016 biopic, Jackie. She continued: “No matter the circumstances of a woman’s life, whether she’s very privileged or underprivileged, the uniting factor is the limits placed by society on what women can be, how they can behave, what they’re allowed to say and think and feel and do.”“So every woman’s story is trying to break free of [that],” she added. While there are many well-known cases of male actors using this approach, including Robert De Niro working for hours as a cab driver before Martin Scorcese’s Taxi Driver, or Leonardo DiCaprio camping in the wilderness and eating raw bison to prepare for The Revenant, there are examples of female stars taking on the method acting technique. When Lady Gaga played Patrizia Reggiani in House Of Gucci, her preparation for the role meant nine months speaking in an Italian accent, even off camera.

Robert De Niro to testify in sensational showdown with ex-assistant in Manhattan
Manhattan court showdown with his former assistant, who has accused him of everything from unwanted touching to making lewd jokes about his Viagra prescription. The 80-year-old “Raging Bull” Oscar winner was expected to take the stand on the first day of his civil-trial face-off involving ex-longtime right-hand woman Graham Chase Robinson, his lawyers confirmed to The Post. The pair’s long-running legal battle first erupted when the “Taxi Driver” actor’s production company, Canal Productions, sued Robinson in August 2019 — alleging the once-trusted employee had raided company coffers, binge-watched “Friends” and Netflix at work and even stole millions of De Niro’s frequent flyer miles.Robinson fired back with her own $12 million suit two months later, accusing her former boss of subjecting her to sexual harassment and bullying while forcing her to assume the role of his “office wife.” The assistant, who started working for De Niro in 2008, alleged that De Niro assigned her “stereotypically female job duties that were inconsistent with her job title” — including putting away his boxers, washing his sheets and setting his table. “Among other things, De Niro [also] would direct Ms Robinson to scratch his back, button his shirts and prod him awake when he was in bed,” her filing alleges.

Martin Scorcese recalls ‘The King Of Comedy’ becoming “the flop of the year”
Martin Scorcese has featured again on his daughter Francesca’s TikTok account, this time revealing the exact moment he realised The King Of Comedy was deemed unsuccessful.READ MORE: Martin Scorsese almost quit Hollywood after ‘Gangs Of New York’The TikTok video shows Scorcese trying to guess various Gen-Z slang. When quizzed on the phrase “slept on” his daughter helped him out by using it in a sentence, saying, “The King Of Comedy was slept on.”She was referring to the 1982 movie starring Robert De Niro, in which a sociopathic stand-up comedian carries out a series of disturbing acts to try and achieve fame and success.Scorcese agreed with his daughter and said, “People hated it when it came out.”Despite a generally positive reception from critics, the movie made a significant loss at the box office, making just $2.5million from a budget of almost $20million.However it was not a wholly unsuccessful venture, as Scorcese did receive a nomination for the BAFTA award for Best Direction at the 1984 ceremony, losing out to Bill Forsyth for Local Hero.Having clearly not forgotten the criticism, Scorcese then recalled the precise moment he knew that it was “the flop of the year.” He said, “That’s what it was called on Entertainment Tonight, New Year’s Eve ’83-’84.”Reflecting on making the movie in a previous interview with Vanity Fair from 2015, Scorsese said, “[The King of Comedy] is about a certain aspect of our culture, and also about not taking yourself too seriously, even though I do.
