Lucy Owen has thanked fans after undergoing emergency surgery.The BBC newsreader took to social media on Friday to confirm that a procedure to save her eyesight has been successful.

However, she still has months of recover ahead - and won't be able to see in this time.As well as sporting an eyepatch for the foreseeable future, she has also been put on bed rest and must lie on her side for a week.

Taking to Twitter to share her difficult experience, Owen also expressed thanked fans for support after previously expressing gratitude to health officials for spotting and treating the potentially life threatening issue.As reported by the Mirror, the 52 year-old tweeted: "Thanks so much for your lovely messages, so kind of you.

Having to lie on my side for a week and won’t get my vision back for a few months - tricky for autocue!"But look what I had from my wonderful Wales Today colleagues.
