Two Ayrshire towns have again been named as the worst seaside locations in Scotland in a survey by Which?. For the second year running, Ayr and Largs were bottom of the list of Scotland's seaside towns.
Which? surveyed 4,744 of their members about their experience of visiting seaside towns in the past year with a total of 10,474 visits analysed.
Seaside locations were ranked by a destination score with hotel prices, beaches, seafront/pier, food and drink, tourist attractions, scenery, shopping, parking, peace and quiet, accommodation and value for money all taken into account.Ayr achieved a destination score of just 57 per cent while Largs fared slightly better at 65 per cent.Largs scored highly for its scenery and value for money (four out of five) but was marked down by its beaches, tourist attractions, shopping and parking (all two out of five).Ayr did score higher for its beaches, tourist attractions and parking (three out of five) but wasn't rated four or higher for any of the 10 criteria.
Its seafront and food and drink were rated two out of five while its shopping achieved the lowest possible one out of five. Ayr's ranking has fallen from 62 per cent in 2023 while Largs' remained the same.
