Armed police descended on Chorlton after a man began to threaten people with a 'gun'. Officers were called out to Manchester Road in the leafy south Manchester suburb at around 1.30pm this afternoon (February 15).

Specialist officers were scrambled to the scene. One eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News he saw armed police outside a work compound for the under-construction cycle lane at Manchester Road.

It's believed a man left a pub in the area before confronting workers at the scene. Residents saw a police helicopter in the area. Try MEN Premium now for FREE...
