Scary Movie franchise is due to make a comeback, according to reports that it is being rebooted.Per a report from Variety, the spoof comedy franchise – which has been dormant since the release of 2013’s Scary Movie 5 – is being revived and rebooted by Paramount Pictures, which made the announcement at CinemaCon.Like all previous installments in the franchise, Miramax will be involved in the reboot.
Paramount Pictures and Miramax will also be teaming up with Fast & Furious franchise producer to Neal H. Moritz on a new film.Paramount Pictures also confirmed at CinemaCon that a new Scary Movie entry is scheduled to go into production in the fall of this year, and that the film is expected to release sometime this year.
Further details surrounding the film, including its title, director, cast and spoof elements have yet to be announced.The Scary Movie franchise has spawned five films to date, premiering in 2000 and concluding in 2013 with Malcolm D.
Lee’s Scary Movie 5. The first four films featured Anna Faris as lead character Cindy Campbell or Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, while the fifth movie featured an entirely new cast led by Ashley Tisdale and Charlie Sheen.
