Searches for German Shepherds have risen by a staggering 235% in Scotland as wannabe dog owners hunt for an alternative to XL Bullies.

Research carried out by puppies.co.uk shows that XL Bully searches fell by 21% in the last month, 82% of which was after February 23, when the Scottish Government's safeguarding measures came into effect.

The data shows that, in the past 3 months, searches for XL Bully puppies declined by 23%, while the German Shepherd searches jumped up by 235%.

At the same time, searches for Cane Corsos and Jack Russels have also gone up, by 1% and 4%. The website, which is the UK’s largest dog marketplace and advocates for responsible dog ownership and breeding, suggests that the German Shepherd could take the XL Bully’s spot as the most sought-after 'aggressive dog' in Scotland.Scotland now ranks as the UK's hotspot for the sale of breeds that are generally considered to be aggressive if they are not trained properly.
