While MPs were scrapping over the latest plans to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda in the House of Commons Chamber yesterday afternoon (January 16), child poverty in Greater Manchester was being debated just down the corridor.
But hardly anyone turned up. Manchester MP Afzal Khan, who secured the Westminster Hall debate, spoke of the stark reality in his Gorton constituency where just over half of all children are living in poverty.
