Two sisters who helped frame a man for crime he did not commit have been jailed. The custody images of Helen and Michelle McPartland have been released for the first time, after the pair were both locked up for perverting the course of justice.

The pair wept and wailed as they learnt they were being sent to prison, the Liverpool Echo reports. Liverpool Crown Court heard the pair made false accusations against their brother-in-law, as a long running family feud simmered.

Michelle, 51, had previously secured a non-molestation order against Graham Potter, the husband of their other sister Alicia, banning him from contacting or approaching her.

Mr and Mrs Potter were in Widnes town centre with their dog on August 6 last year and were walking in the direction of Widnes Market when they spotted Helen's parked car nearby.
