Snow in Scotland LIVE as Glasgow Airport suspends flights amid weather warning

Scots have woken up to thick snow blanketing the streets in many parts of the country this morning.The Met Office has issued yellow warnings through Saturday morning for the northern coast and southwest of Scotland.

Those in Glasgow saw heavy snow overnight, with cars and pavement covered in around an inch of snow.However the snowfall has already caused travel chaos, with Glasgow Airport announcing it has suspended all flights temporarily due to snow.The transport hub said teams have been working through the night and it is hoped operations can resume “as soon as possible”.We'll keep you up to date with all the latest news on the snow throughout the day.Traffic Scotland has released tips for driving in snow and ice.

In a post on X, they said: "On bends in snow: Brake progressively on straight before reaching bend. Steer smoothly round bend, avoid sudden actions. "Accelerate gently, low revs & high gears.

Sometimes moving off in 2nd gear can reduce wheel slip "Keep well back from vehicle in front; stopping distances can be 10x greater than on dry roads." "Tips for driving in ICE: Clear ALL your windows before setting off."Pull off in a high gear & keep your manoeuvres smooth. "Leave 10x normal gap between you & vehicle in front." A number of Scottish league matches have been postponed due to the snow.
