The Met Office has confirmed there is a 'low chance' of a white Christmas in Manchester this year. It's bad news for those hoping for the ideal Christmas weather in just over a week, with current long-range forecasts instead pointing more towards showers.

The Met Office added that despite the lack of snow, the region can expect wintry showers in higher elevated areas. According to current long-range forecasts extending around the Christmas period, snow will most likely be seen in some hill areas in the north-west with winds and showers expected on the coast. This means it's highly likely that we'll be in for a mild Chritmas this year. For the weather predicted for the UK in general over the next two weeks, Met Office chief forecaster Paul Gundersen, said: "The high pressure will draw up warmer air from the southwest and as we go into the coming weekend, we will see milder conditions by both day and by night for all.

The Foehn effect could result in particularly mild conditions for areas such as east Scotland. "It looks like this pattern will last into the first half of next week meaning the mild conditions will continue with some outbreaks of rain likely at times, mostly across the north and the northwest.
