Acclaimed lyricist Sheldon Harnick has sadly died. The creator of the music for hit Broadway shows including Fiddler on the Roof passed away on Friday (June 23) at the age of 99.
A spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter. Keep reading to find out more… Sheldon died of natural causes and was at home in his New York City apartment, according to his spokesperson Sean Katz.
Over the course of his career, Sheldon won four Tony Awards and was honored with a Pulitzer Prize. His work with creative partner Jerry Bock resulted in the creation of other beloved musicals, including The Apple Tree and Fiorello!
While he is best known in Broadway circles, Sheldon‘s influence was far-reaching and can be felt elsewhere in pop culture.
