A devastated mum has been given a terminal diagnosis just months after telling her children that she was cancer free.Liathán O'Donnchadha, from Belfast, was told by doctors that she had a rare form of cancer on her 42nd birthday last year - cancer of the vagina which was also found along the line of her bladder - after she woke up in a pool of blood and severe pain.

The mum-of-two underwent a "soul destroying" and "horrific" course of treatment, which involved radiotherapy everyday for six weeks followed by chemotherapy every Tuesday. On November 10 last year, she was finally able to celebrate being cancer free and cried tears of joy with her two children, Eireann, 10, and Lochlann, 5.

However, just six months later, Liathán was given the devastating news that her cancer had returned - and was now terminal. To help the mum make as many memories with her children as she can in her final months, her friends have set up a GoFundMe page which has raised almost £2,000 already.

Pal Grainne said: "It is awful. She is just so strong and fighting."It is all you really can do. Her kids are her everything and they are the reason she is fighting."The GoFundMe reads: "Sadly after only six months of being cancer free, Liathán got the devastating news that the cancer has returned only this time far more aggressive and unfortunately terminal leaving her only a few short months with her two young children Eireann and Lochlann."We as Liathán's friends would like to raise some funds so that she can make some final happy memories for her children to have in these unforeseen circumstances.
