Scotland's crunch Euro 2024 qualifier with Georgia has been suspended after a torrential downpour caused havoc at Hampen.Referee Istan Vad called a quick pre-match inspection before giving it a thumbs up, however, the heavy rain didn't yield and caused mayhem during the opening exchanges and he called a temporary 20-minute pause after just eight minutes' play for ground staff to act after Callum McGregor's opener.

It could be a blow to Steve Clarke and his Group A leaders whose momentum was disrupted as they were hoping to secure another win to make it four consecutive victories in their group.

Punters were soaking up the atmosphere before the game but were drenched en route to the national stadium as it became clear the testing conditions would be too much to overcome as it appeared the players were in need of water wings to navigate.

The play was a farce as the ball kept getting held up. Should the game be abandoned – and the rain has eased off – the SFA will be on alert now for a suitable date to rearrange the contest with friendlies upcoming sandwiched between crunch qualifiers for next year's showpiece in Germany.
