West Lothian's politicians have been reacting to the shock resignation of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon this morning.Ms Sturgeon made the bombshell announcement at Bute House in Edinburgh this morning, after eight years in the job.

She admitted she could not give the role of First Minister "every ounce of energy" and will leave her post once her successor is elected.She added: "Part of serving well is to know, almost instinctively, to know when the time is right ...

in my head and my heart I know that time is now."Her SNP colleagues in West Lothian have been paying tribute to her.Livingston MP Hannah Bardell said: "The loss of Nicola Sturgeon's leadership to our party and movement will be significant, but the way she has worked in Government for the people of Scotland and inspired so many to get involved in politics, including myself, is testament to her incredible leadership capabilities."Her colleague at Westminster, Martyn Day, added: "Thank you for your hard work & leadership as the longest serving FM in Scotland’s history; wishing you all the best."Whilst I’m disappointed that Nicola has stood down it offers our movement a chance to review our move towards independence."SNP MSP Fiona Hyslop said Ms Sturgeon was "simply outstanding First Minister, Woman and Leader of the SNP".
