North west property developer Salboy has said there was "no explosion" at a high-rise tower building site after a construction worker was taken injured to hospital.

Emergency services were called to the Viadux site in Manchester city centre at around 9am on Tuesday morning. In a statement yesterday, police said they had been called to the site after 'reports of an explosion at a high-rise building'.

One worker was taken to hospital, where police said thankfully their injuries were not believed to be serious. The incident happened at the Viadux Tower on Albion Street off Whitworth Street, a planned 40 storey-high tower above Castlefield Locks next to the existing Axis Tower which is currently being built and is set for completion by the property developer next year. The worker involved suffered a minor impact injury to their calf and was released from hospital later on Tuesday. The building's integrity, said Salboy and DOMIS, was unaffected and work on site has resumed fully.
