Max Johnston is hoping tonight is the first step of a dream double with Sturm Graz. The Scotland Under-21 cap will be looking to help the holders retain the Austrian Cup when they take on Rapid Vienna in the final at the 28 Black Arena.
Johnston moved from Motherwell in the summer and hopes the omens are good because the Australian Bundesliga leaders have already beaten Rapid twice in the league. The 20-year-old said: “It is massive.
Sturm Graz won the cup last year so the team is looking to try and retain it. It’s exactly the same final as last year. So they will definitely be up for it and looking to avenge last year.
We just need to do our best on the night and whatever team is the best will win it. We’ve beaten Rapid home and away but they are a really strong team and will be a big danger.”Johnston’s previous final experience came in the Scottish Challenge Cup, although he missed that through injury. He admitted: “It will be my first senior cup final that I, fingers crossed, am going to be fit for.“I missed out in 2022 when I was at Queen of the South on-loan and we lost to Raith Rovers.
