Parents tell son fundraiser for cancer treatment is 'celebration of his bravery'

Ayrshire parents have told their four-year-old son that a fundraiser for cancer treatment is a "celebration of how brave he is." Victoria MacDonald, 33, and partner Andrew Rae, 35, feel like the "whole of Ayrshire" are behind their boy Calum Rae who is battling an extremely aggressive cancer – high risk neuroblastoma.The couple who live in Troon, along with Calum's baby sister Emily, are desperate to send Calum to the states for a trial vaccine which could prolong his life.The fundraiser kicked off just three weeks ago to raise a quarter-of-a-million to get Calum on the trial and hospital treatment at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York.But even Victoria, who is managing the stresses of Calum's treatment with a new born, admits she couldn’t have predicted the incredible response with waves of supporters lining up to raise cash.Victoria told Ayrshire Live: “We didn’t expect it to be honest, we didn’t think it would be like this“We had no idea where to begin to try and raise that amount of money, people from all over Ayrshire have just stepped in to help us.“It just felt impossible at the start we just kept thinking 'how will we do this?'“He is going to become increasingly unwell, 'how will we manage to fundraise, when we’re trying to take care of Calum and look after him?' It was completely overwhelming."So far Calum’s fundraiser titled “Our Rae of Sunshine” has hit £72,000 and counting.Victoria said: “We’re just completely blown away and completely taken aback.
