OAP biker who died in horror crash with motorhome on Highlands road named by police

A motorcyclist has sadly died in hospital after being involved in a crash with a motorhome in the Scottish Highlands.The 73-year-old biker was critically injured following a collision with a Fiat campervan on the A87 near Glen Shiel on Friday afternoon.Police raced to the scene and closed the road for nine hours while the injured biker was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.He sadly lost his fight for life on Sunday, police have confirmed.

He has now been formally identified as Alexander McCracken, known as Sandy, from the Coventry area.No one else was injured during the two-vehicle crash while a probe into the circumstances remains ongoing.Sergeant Neil MacDonald said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Alexander at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected.“Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and who hasn’t already spoken to us to get in touch.I would also ask that anyone who has dash-cam footage which may assist contact us."Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 3143 of August 25.
