More than 100 Ayr streets set to face restrictions and closures during air show

Ayr town centre will grind to a halt with more than 100 roads facing 'no waiting' restrictions and closures when the anticipated air show takes centre stage next month.The huge aerial spectacle is returning to the town the weekend of Friday, September 8 to Sunday, September 10 with thousands set to hit the shoreline to watch as iconic aircraft including the iconic red arrows take to the skies.But residents and motorists have been warned of temporary road closures and restrictions throughout the town, with major streets set to be no-go zones.A lengthy list has been released by road chiefs detailing the closures in place, and no waiting orders also in force throughout the weekend.

And it reveals that more than 100 roads will be subject to a temporary no waiting. Key areas will include streets along near to the beach and the Low Green, with road closures in the vicinity stretching along to Racecourse Road and Racecourse View.

And it's not just in Ayr where traffic will be impacted by the air show plans.Restrictions will also apply to roads in Prestwick and Monkton with chiefs bracing themselves for crowds flocking to Prestwick Airport where aircraft are set to jet off from.Exemptions will include residents who will still be able to access their street providing they have a permit.Council chiefs have confirmed affected residents have been written to advise.Access to emergency vehicles will remain on all the roads marked as closed or restricted over the weekend.A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Council said: "The council has written to affected residents, who will shortly receive letters with detailed information and any required permits where appropriate."Emergency vehicles will still have access to all affected routes."
