Loch Ken Trust is celebrating a double funding boost worth more than £100,000. The group has received grants from both the Blackcraig Windfarm Community Fund and Galloway Hydro Scheme owners Drax, meaning it can plan ahead with confidence.
The trust set up a ranger service around the loch in April 2021 thanks to funding from the Blackcraig Community Fund, which is administered by Glenkens and District Trust (GDT) in partnership with Foundation Scotland.
GDT has now committed £60,000 over the next three years – its biggest award to date – to support the ranger service. As well as providing security, it has allowed head ranger Leanne Pumpr to start developing a multi-year programme for the service.
She said: “Everyone at Loch Ken Ranger Service is really grateful to Glenkens and District Trust for this show of confidence in us. “With the security offered by this award, we are excited to work on developing a programme of support for our amazing communities around Loch Ken. “If you would like to know more about the work of the ranger service, or are interested in getting involved, please get in touch.” The ranger service was formed after local authority rangers were withdrawn.
