Met Office issues heatwave verdict as it responds to claims UK will get '41C Iberian scorcher'

The Met Office has dashed hopes of another heatwave heading to the UK as it hit out at claims a '41C Iberian scorcher' is on its way.

The weather agency took to social media platform X to deliver its latest verdict on whether Brits can expert scorching weather over the next few days.

Taking aim at the "curious" headlines that have appeared in recent days, which claim that a wave of scorching heat will arrive in the UK from Spain and Portugal, the Met Office said the UK can expect 'fine and dry' weather, but nothing out of the ordinary. It said: "A dry and fine weekend for many, with plenty of sunny spells and some showers in the northwest. Temperatures likely to peak around 25C in the south, lower in the north. "The continental heat is not influencing the UK's weekend weather, with a westerly regime in charge." Most places are expected to enjoy a pleasant weekend, before things turn more unsettled next week.
