'I won't parrot the party line on winter fuel payment cuts', Andy Burnham says

Andy Burnham has vowed to relay concerns about scrapping winter fuel payments for millions of pensioners with the government.

Rachel Reeves announced this summer that the payments that held older people with their heating bills will only be available to those receiving other benefits.

The controversial move came as she revealed a '£22m black hole' in the country's finances for this year alone. Speaking on BBC Radio Manchester this morning (September 5), Mr Burnham was asked whether he agreed with the move which comes at the same as train drivers get an above-inflation pay rise.

The Greater Manchester praised the government for agreeing a pay deal with unions, saying that the strikes that have taken place over the last two years caused chaos that needed to come to an end.
