Major roadworks will start in Salford next month, causing disruption for six weeks near the city's hospital. Resurfacing work along Eccles Old Road will start on Monday, September 2 and continue until Friday, October 11, at a cost of around £570,000.
It includes the removal of existing bus lanes, drainage works, and new road markings, along a busy carriageway which sits between the A6 and Half Edge Lane, and travels between Pendleton and Salford Royal Hospital. The scheme is funded by the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements (CRSTS) programme, a government grant to improve transport networks in large cities.
But the plan has faced criticism from campaigners who say it will not make the roads safer for cyclists. Harry Gray, from Walk Ride GM, said the group has contacted Salford council with its concerns, but they have not received a response from political leaders at the town hall.
