Large emergency response after man plunges to 'bottom of embankment' near busy road

Emergency services were scrambled after a man 'fell to the bottom of an embankment'. Police and fire crews were called to the scene of the incident off Kingsway, close to the Parrs Wood area, at around 8.40am today (July 27).

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large number of police cars off the A34, as well as a number of fire engines and the Technical Rescue Unit.

A spokesperson for the fire service said crews rescued a man who had fallen down the embankment close to the railway line. The man was then taken to hospital from the scene. A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "At around 8.40am on Saturday 27 July, fire crews from Withington and Stockport, as well as the technical rescue unit from Ashton, attended an incident off Kingsway, Manchester. "Firefighters worked with emergency services colleagues to rescue a man who had fallen to the bottom of an embankment near the railway line.
