Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television judge. After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager.
Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin.
After adopting the stage name Katy Perry and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.

The 38-year-old “Firework” star wore an extra-large pink hat and went viral after she was wandering around looking for a seat.
After realizing people’s reactions, she quickly took to Twitter and said “don’t worry guys i found my seat.” In an interview on Sunday (May 14), Katy elaborated on her initial reaction to the viral moment. “Well, I just want everybody to know, thank you so much for your concern,” Katy told ET. “I found my seat.” Keep reading to find out more… “You know, the memes are meme-ing and I love it,” Katy said. “When you look when you look one way for fifteen seconds it’s just all of a sudden the internet takes over.” Two more Katy-centric memes took off online since the conclusion of the coronation.
One of them even involves a comparison to fellow pop titan Adele. Katy performed powerful renditions of her hits “Roar” and “Firework” at the historic event.
