Passengers of major airlines Jet2, Ryanair, easyJet and TUI have been warned about a price hike in parking charges at some of the UK's busiest airports.
The head-ups comes as four main UK travel hubs have witnessed significant upsurge in their drop-off prices - as steep as £1 more per minute.Latest research conducted by the RAC illustrates a striking £1 surge for a 10-minute drop-off.
At present, London Gatwick is demanding £6 for 10 minutes, Edinburgh demands £5 for the same period while Birmingham imposes a fee of £5 for 15 minutes and Bristol requires £6 for 10 minutes.Rod Dennis, the RAC's senior policy officer, expressed his disappointment, he said: "It's depressing, if perhaps unsurprising given what's happened in the past, to see seven airports have hiked their drop-off charges once again this year.
Increased charges at airports that have relatively poor public transport access for instance, no direct rail or tram link also seems pretty unreasonable." Elaborating further, Mr Dennis explained that certain airports enforce higher penalties to dissuade people from driving to the airport and thereby fostering the use of public transport such as buses and trains.
