A beach near Greater Manchester is home to the cheapest fish and chips in the UK, according to new research. New Brighton, less than 90 minutes’ drive away, was found to have the most-budget friendly fish and chips in the country, priced at £7.76 on average.

Southwold in the East of England was found to have the second cheapest fish and chips, coming in at £8.35. Portmeirion in Wales came in third with the seaside treat setting you back £8.57.

New Brighton was also named the cheapest place for chips alone, with an average price of large chips coming in at £2.70, significantly cheaper than the most expensive destination on the list, which was Plockton in Scotland, coming in at an eye-watering £5.30 for a large chips. The research found the cheapest and most expensive fish and chips, as well as ‘affordability’ rankings in relation to local salaries.
