One of ITV's top bosses has said that he handed over his own phone during the investigation into the Phillip Schofield scandal.

Kevin Lygo, Director of Television with the broadcaster, revealed that the team of investigators looked through his texts, emails and WhatsApp messages. The deep dive into ITV began after Phillip, 61, left This Morning suddenly earlier this year and later admitted to an affair with a much younger colleague.

Allegations have also come out about a "toxic" culture on the award-winning daytime show. Kevin has spoken out about the controversy at the Edinburgh TV Festival, as he said: "When it all flared up, we thought, ‘Are there things we don't know about?' "What's been going on?

There are things we need to know. All these rumours and everything flying around, and we thought, ‘We need to get to the truth of what's gone on.’ "So we ordered an independent enquiry, and she has been looking at it, talking to everyone involved. "They take your phone away, look at every text you’ve ever sent, emails, WhatsApps." However, Kevin did reveal that he did have the option to not hand his phone over on privacy grounds, but he didn't want the report to state: "This isn’t the full report because Kevin Lygo wouldn’t give us his phone." He then confirmed that "everything possible" is available, before he explained: "I’m assured that any of it that’s not relevant to this inquiry will not be revealed … I don’t have a drug dealer phone. "I just have a company phone.
