A new neighbourhood in and around a redeveloped 18th-century mill in Stockport will become the 'coolest' and 'possibly the best place to live in Greater Manchester', one of its bosses has said as it reached a new milestone.

Work began on a £60m redevelopment of Weir Mill in the town centre in July last year. As well as the mill buildings themselves, which are undergoing a painstaking restoration, the development also features a 14-storey tower block that sits next to, and rises above, Stockport's iconic viaduct.

When it's completed the sprawling 130-acre site will feature 253 apartments, new green outdoor space and around a dozen independent bars, restaurants, and shops. Bosses marked the occasion with a 'topping out' ceremony atop the new building on Wednesday. Windows are now being installed and once the buildings are air and water tight the process of fitting them out begins.
