Illegal 'danger' vapes found stashed in secret compartments as police bust shops

Illegal vapes were found stashed inside 'hidden compartments' of a shop during a police and council crime crackdown, it was revealed today.

Greater Manchester Police said 'hundreds of illegal items' were seized during the operation also involving Rochdale Council's trading standards team on Wednesday (20 September) A GMP spokesman said: "The work targeted illegal paraphernalia and unregulated items within stores in Heywood, including everything from illegal cigarettes to items which promote drug use. The force confirmed illegal vapes were seized - saying they could cause 'an increased risk of harm to the user'.

Hidden compartments were found in one store, containing numerous vaping and cigarette products. Police believe the electricity supply was also being by-passed at one premises on Market Street. "Some of those working at the stores were subsequently issued with court summons in response to the finds," said a GMP statement.

Sergeant Matthew Honey said: "We regularly work with our local partners to ensure the best possible outcome for the people of Heywood.
